The team at Hurley’s Skip Hire have put together a list of some of the skip hire questions we get asked on a regular basis!
What is a skip permit and do I need one?
A skip permit is needed when a skip is to be kept on a public highway and you apply to your local council for one. Some councils expect the skip hire company to apply for the permit, others expect the customer to apply. If you are hiring a skip from Hurley’s Skip Hire, we can let you know if your council wants you to do it or if we will be doing it for you.
Find out more about skip permits.
What size skip should I hire?
We have a wide range of skip sizes available to you and each one comes with an expected amount of rubbish bags we would expect you to get into each one to help you decide which size to get. Our team can also recommend what size skip your should hire if you let us know what your project is! Take a look at the skips we offer.
Are there anythings I can not put in my skip?
There are a number of things that we do not allow in skips, such as asbestos, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, fluorescent tubes, paint tins, batteries, medical waste, gas cylinders, solvents, oil, petrol, diesel, food waste, explosives. Find out more about these skip restrictions.
Can I have a fire in my skip?
No, fires are not allowed in the skips as they destroy them and are not able to be used again and the cost of a replacement will be passed on.
Will there be any additional charges?
There are surcharges applied to the following items (and we need to be told you are putting them in the skip):
- Mattress – £10,
- Fridge/freezer (under counter) – £25
- Fridge/freezer (full height ) – £35
- Tyres – £6 each, inc. VAT
Surcharges are added as these items need to be disposed off in specific ways. Find out more about these surcharges.
Do I need to have a driveway to hire a skip?
No, your skip can be placed on the highway outside your home (unless there are any restrictions) and a skip permit would need to be applied for from your local council.
How much does it cost to hire a skip?
The price of hiring a skip depends on what size you are hiring and also what your postcode is. Take a look at our skip hire pageto get a price on how much it would cost.
